Freelancer, Freespace, etc are pretty much entirely combat-orientated with no focus whatsoever on half the things you'd find in EVE. X3 probably comes closest due to the fact there's an actual economy (though relatively simplistic and the AI dosen't compete with you or anything) and the station-building system is wonderful.
Nothing quite like finding an unexplored ore-rich system in the middle of nowhere, setting up a station loop so you never have to provide external resources to any of them and then feeding it all into your HQ to pump out all the ships you'd ever need - Then throwing them into a Xenon sector to see how long they last
Shipyard/HQ in an unexplored sector Docking with my carrier New Jita complex system Watching my fighters duke it out with Xenon
It's quite fun for a while, though the appeal dosen't last forever (but I guess that's the nature of singleplayer games) It's no EVE and it most certainly is no Elite II: Fronter, but it's a great game nontheless. -----

Originally by: Willim Tell I was SO looking forward to Battlecruiser: Mellenium ... I'm all for complicated games as it keeps the idiots away, but this one was too complicated for no reason other than the game's creator has a severe case of egocentrism.
I only know one person who's managed to actually get past the learning curve on that game (A game developer of all people) It's also one of the only games* I've ever truely given up on because it's too damned complex/awkward/buggy to get a feel for it. The bits I DID manage to figure out (landing on planets / launching fighters / pointing the ships solar panels at the sun for faster energy regen) were pretty nice concept-wise, but all implemented so horribly it's hard to really describe...
So much potential...
*more a simulation (of what happens when you don't have a QA department or any beta testers to speak of) -----

Prophecy was amazing. Sortof like Freespace but with more focus on Storyline (enough Cutscenes it felt as if you were watching a movie) - I don't really see what there is to hate -----

They used to make awesome space-sims every other month, what the hell happened? Now it's nothing but WoW clones and FPS with shinier graphics
I'm trying that EV Nova thing. It's amusing at best, but I'm currently disabled in what appears to be a pirate haven. Every damned one is passing by, boarding, stealing something and buggering off again... -----

The original voice acting is german, but is still not very good. I gave up on X3 a few weeks after the release, because features that were promised (player HQ) were missing from the game. I heard the game got patched quite heavily and some things were even added by the developers for free, so I might give it a try again.
You need to complete the story and then do the Bala Gai research missions to get the HQ. they give you it for free once you complete them (along with an excessively overpowered corvette) -----
